Yomut Okbash
Description
Yomut okbash, Turkmenistan, 2nd half 19th century, all wool.
It was used to contain the ends of the yurt tent poles as part of the wedding furniture; one of a pair. The smoky appearance of the colours is a result of hanging in a tent with an open fire and a hole in the roof instead of a chimney.
Part of the Turkoman exhibition in 1995
