Persian Heriz Rug
Description
This Persian Heriz rug dates to around 1900. Visually, it can be described with three Ss: sweet, small and square.
The size and proportions of this small rug are quite unusual. The soft natural dyes and the pleasing design of florals around the centre medallion, which is marked out by a white surround, account for the sweetness. The main border, too, is held in a very soft colour palette. Particularly notable is the dark brown wool which is undyed and has begun to take on a slightly silvery hue.
The rug is woven in wool on a cotton foundation and is in excellent condition.
