Sultanabad, ca. 1880. Made for the Manchester company Ziegler & Co in their workshop in Sultanabad – hence the name ‘Ziegler carpets’ . ‘Ziegler carpets’  were targeted at the European market and are still highly sought after. This example is a very desirable room-size carpet in the soft, elegant colour scheme that ‘Zieglers’ are most famous for,  and in great original condition. The scale and simplicity of design, mostly floral patterns, and the subtlety of the colours make this a very elegant carpet.
