Art Deco Rug with a “Zebra” Design

Art Deco Rug with a “Zebra” Design

reference:  i1428

This Art Deco rug is a design classic with its elegantly swerving black lines on an off-white background reminiscent of a zebra, hence the term “zebra rug” that is often applied to these carpets.

Like the slightly bigger example on this website (see https://www.christopherleggeorientalcarpets.com/products/view/art-deco-zebra-rug/), it has been associated with the architect Oliver Hill, but we can find no evidence to support this.

Made in China, possibly Tientsin.

Silky, well patinated wool on a cotton foundation, with the trademark rounded corners.

The rug is in perfect condition.
