Art Deco Rug with a “Zebra” Design

Art Deco Rug with a “Zebra” Design

reference:  i1428

This Art Deco rug is a design classic with its elegantly swerving black lines on an off-white background reminiscent of a zebra, hence the term “zebra rug” that is often applied to these carpets.

Like the slightly bigger example on this website (see, it has been associated with the architect Oliver Hill, but we can find no evidence to support this.

Made in China, possibly Tientsin.

Silky, well patinated wool on a cotton foundation, with the trademark rounded corners.

The rug is in perfect condition.
