Italian Silk Embroidery
Description
This Italian silk embroidery dates to the 17th century.
It is worked on a fine gauze. The colour scheme is classic: mostly green, gold, a soft blue and some gentle pink. The design of florals and foliage emanating from a central vertical line is also what Italian embroideries of this age are famed for.
The fragmented textile has been conserved and mounted on a stretcher, with the backing linen in a complementary colour to the gauze – a highly decorative work of textile art.
