Antique southwest Persian Luri-Qashqai bag dating to the late 19th century.

The hooked medallion occupying the majority of the field is decorated with a quatrefoil motif on a red ground. It is surrounded by small flower heads, a large, stepped flower in each corner and four animals, all on a dark blue ground. The border is a classic Qashqai meandering border.

An outstanding feature of this bag is the quality of the wool, lush to the touch, and the very saturated dyes, all derived from natural dye stuffs. The back, too, is very beautiful with its elaborately ornamented, flat woven stripes.

The bag is all wool and in excellent condition.
