English, ca. 1650. An example of how English ladies copied the weaving techniques of first imported carpets from Turkey (hence the name), with remarkably fresh colours. The existence of a border would suggest that this rare piece was used as a cushion cover. Not many pieces of Turkey Work have survived; examples are the chairs in the Geffrye Museum and the V&A
