Vintage Moroccan Rabat Carpet

Vintage Moroccan Rabat Carpet

235 x 168 cm

This vintage Moroccan Rabat carpet dates to around the middle of the 20th century.

The field is divided into three sections: two areas on a royal blue ground flank a slightly smaller segment in the centre of the field. A large star with two smaller stars on either side is the central motif in the blue sections. A row of five flowering shrubs point inwards from the top and bottom ends towards this large star. The red centre is dominated by an incomplete grid of concentric diamonds with another star like motif in the middle on an orange ground. Multiple borders with geometric patterns enclose the field. The sides are overcast in orange wool.

The colour scheme is typical of carpets from this area: a strong red and an equally strong blue as well as a secondary blue, orange, yellow, some green, white and a little brown.

The carpet is woven in wool on a wool foundation and is in very good condition.
