Description

Tekke rug of fairly square proportions made by a member of the Tekke tribe in Turkmenistan, ca. 1900. The design of this rug is unusual as it has  Salor guls (typical of another major Turkoman tribe, the Salors) as the main ornaments in the field, arranged in two columns of four guls each. It has very soft natural dyes, with the red based on the madder root, and lush, glossy wool with a soft handle.

The rug is in excellent condition
