Description

This Shah Savan Jajim from Persian Azerbaijan dates to the late 19th century.

It is woven in wool, with some lovely small embroidery detail worked in wool and cotton. Six narrow panels of roughly 31 cm width have been assembled to form this flat woven cover, which was almost certainly used as a sleeping quilt cover.

For further discussion of the background of these wonderful weaves, see, for instance,  https://www.christopherleggeorientalcarpets.com/products/view/shahsavan-jajim/ on this website.

The Jajim is in excellent condition, with all the colours based on natural dye stuffs. It is a genuine piece of tribal textile art with a modernist feel.
