This Persian Kashan rug with a so-called Motashem design is an excellent example of contemporary carpet weaving in the country, and it is of the highest quality.

The wool, the dyes and the weaving skills involved in the making of this rug are outstanding and in keeping with the tradition of carpets from this area, as is the design of flower and tree patterns within a grid of tile-like shapes. However, the unusually subdued colour scheme makes this a very attractive rug with a modern twist on a traditional design.
