Kashmir Darparda
Description
Kashmir darparda, window hanging, Srinagar, Kashmir, early 19th century, pashmina.
Composite panel assembled from four different pieces, possibly originally shawls, as was customary: the field with the all over boteh design, the yellow border strip, the blue border and the outer triple border. A fifth strip of white/blue material was applied to form a mihrab as found on prayer rugs, although this textile is unlikely to have been used for that purpose
