Description

This Dobag rug dates to the middle of the 1980s.

It was made as part of the Dobag project in Turkey, which was instigated by Harald Böhmer. Böhmer was responsible for the re-introduction of natural dyeing in carpet weaving, which led to a renaissance in high-quality carpet production employing natural dye stuffs and working with traditional designs. The women weavers on this project formed a cooperative and were therefore properly remunerated for their work.

Carpets from this project have a following and have become quite collectable in recent years.

This is a sweet example, with very soft colours and excellent wool.
