Description

AD 1, the latest design by our in-house designer Christopher Legge, is inspired by the the traditions of Art Deco carpets (hence the name of this design). The field pattern, which at first sight appears to be a very simple arrangement of partially overlapping concentric circles, is a sophisticated web of part circles, part rectangles with rounded corners with differing degrees of overlap and with coloured-in segments which are arranged in a manner that gives the whole design a sense of wavy movement. The colour scheme with the ivory coloured background and the subdued, creamy red for the filled in segments and a very slightly darker red for the outlines is very much in keeping with the subtle elegance of Art Deco. The handle, too, is reminiscent of Art Deco carpets with their usually quite coarse weave producing a slightly heavy chunkiness. This is a well balanced, contemporary carpet which will look good in any contemporary interior.

AD 1 was woven in Nepal with a wool pile on a cotton foundation. It is signed CTL in the bottom right-hand corner.
