Description

This Tekke rug was made in Turkmenistan in around the 3rd quarter of the 19th century. It is  an early example of a “commercial” Tekke rug, made to be sold or bartered, but still with the attributes of a truly tribal rug woven to stay within the family of the weaver. It has lovely shades of blue, among them a very electric light blue, and the spacing of the guls is generous and would not be amiss in a main carpet.

For a comparison, see our Tekke Main Carpet on the Tribal pages of this  website: http://www.christopherleggeorientalcarpets.com/products/view/antique-tekke-main-carpet/

Wool on a wool foundation. Minor repairs, slight damage to sides and areas of low pile
