Contemporary Suzani
Description
This contemporary Suzani from Uzbekistan or Tadjikistan is a charming textile in the tradition of these wonderful silk embroideries from central Asia.
A multitude of flower heads and vines, plus boteh patterns, decorate the field, which is enclosed by a narrow meandering border embellished with botehs in colours also found in the field. The embroidery is worked in silk on two panels joined down the middle of the textile, with the seam over embroidered. It is backed with plain cotton and edged with bias cut cotton ikat.
The soft colours and the warm terracotta background make for a happy wall decoration in a traditional as well as a contemporary home.
