Southwest Persian Qashqai Kelim
Iran, late 19th century. Very fine slit tapestry weave, white cotton and wool in an unusual, wide range of colours, including an undyed dark brown in the bands of the field as well as the border. An almost identical piece is published in Yanni Petsopoulos, Kilims. The Art of Tapestry Weaving in Anatolia, the Caucasus and Persia. Fribourg and London, 1979, p.359, Pl.39; it was shown in an exhibition entitled "The Qashqai of Iran" in a number of museums in England in 1976. Very minor repairs, overall excellent condition
